3D Scanning and Printing Project for SVT's Magasin 4 Rekvisita

In 2019, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Magasin 4 Rekvisita, SVT's main prop and TV asset department (Swedish Broadcasting Television), which produces TV series and movies. They commissioned me to perform 3D scanning to 3D print replicas of their valuable props so they wouldn't have to rent out the originals.

I accurately captured fine details using the Artec Eva and Artec Space Spider. The Artec Eva is known for its versatility and ease of use. At the same time, the Space Spider excels in high-resolution scanning, making it perfect for intricate objects like a long white clay pipe (dating from the early 17th to late 19th century) and a marble sculpture of a man holding a Satyr pan mask.

After the commissioned 3D Scanning, SVT asked me to create a 3D design of the clay pipe from several scanned objects. This process was akin to making a collage but in 3D. The final design was printed in white plaster using a 3D Systems Zcorp Z650, known for producing high-quality, detailed prints ideal for replicating historical artifacts.

This project was both challenging and rewarding. The most significant challenge was ensuring the accuracy and detail of the scans, which was crucial for creating faithful replicas. Overcoming these challenges and seeing the final printed objects was incredibly satisfying.
